Your Summer TeenPacking journey begins from Kozhikode, historically known as Calicut, one of the major spice trade ports of medieval India. Located along the Arabian Sea at near sea level, Kozhikode marks the starting point of this long northbound adventure. You board the evening train at 4:30 pm. As the train moves away from the coconut-lined coast of Kerala, the scenery gradually changes into the rocky landscapes and plateau regions of peninsular India. The first day is filled with excitement, introductions, and the thrill of beginning a 5,500+ km journey across the country.
A full day of train travel across multiple Indian states — Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. This becomes a live geography lesson as you witness the changing landscapes of India. The Western Ghats, the dry stretches of the Deccan Plateau, river basins like Narmada and Chambal, and the semi-arid edges of Rajasthan pass by your window. The train covers approximately 2,200+ km across India’s western and central corridor, giving a real sense of the country’s vastness.
Arrival at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station around 5:30 am. After fresh-up, you begin exploring Delhi, a city layered with more than 2,000 years of history — from the legendary Indraprastha to the Mughal capital and today’s national capital of India.
You visit Qutub Minar (73 meters high, built in the 12th century), India Gate (war memorial built in 1931), Jama Masjid (one of India’s largest mosques), and Red Fort (UNESCO-listed Mughal palace complex).
In the evening, you depart towards Jammu by overnight train or bus, covering approximately 600 km.
Early morning arrival at Jammu (Altitude approx. 327 m), culturally influenced by the Dogra heritage and known as the gateway to Kashmir. From here, the mountain journey begins towards Srinagar.
The road distance from Jammu to Srinagar is about 270 km, taking 8–10 hours through the Pir Panjal mountain ranges, tunnels, deep valleys and river landscapes. As you gain altitude to about 1,585 m at Srinagar, the climate turns cooler and more refreshing compared to the plains. Overnight stay at Srinagar.
After breakfast, proceed to Sonamarg. Distance from Srinagar is about 80 km, and the altitude rises to approximately 2,730 m. Sonamarg holds geographical importance as the gateway towards Ladakh and was historically connected to the ancient Silk Route trade network.
Snow-covered peaks, the Sindh River valley and wide alpine meadows define the scenery. You spend time exploring the landscape before returning to Srinagar for overnight stay.
After breakfast, proceed to Gulmarg (approximately 50 km from Srinagar, altitude around 2,650 m).
Today you explore Gulmarg, one of India’s most famous high-altitude hill resorts. You may take the Gondola cable car ride, one of the highest in the world, to experience breathtaking views of Apharwat Peak. Optional snow activities such as skiing or snow biking are available depending on weather conditions.
In the evening, you visit Lal Chowk, the commercial heart of Srinagar. Dinner is provided. Overnight stay at Srinagar.
Morning sightseeing includes the Mughal Garden Nishat Bagh, built in 1633, overlooking Dal Lake. You also visit Hazratbal Shrine, an important spiritual landmark located on the lake shoreline.
Enjoy a traditional Shikara ride on Dal Lake, the geographical and cultural heart of Kashmir.
In the afternoon, you take a heritage walk through Downtown Srinagar, exploring centuries-old wooden houses, traditional Islamic architecture, and historic neighborhoods. Evening walk at Lal Chowk before starting the overnight bus journey from Srinagar to Amritsar.
Arrival at Amritsar. The day includes a visit to the Golden Temple, the spiritual center of Sikhism, followed by Jallianwala Bagh memorial, which stands as a reminder of India’s freedom struggle.
In the evening, you witness the patriotic retreat ceremony at Wagah Border, a unique military parade marking the India–Pakistan border closing ritual. Dinner is provided. Overnight stay at Amritsar hotel.
Board the 5:55 am train towards Kerala. The long return journey begins, retracing India’s northern and central landscapes.
Full day train journey. Time to relax, share photographs, document experiences, and reflect on the Himalayan adventure, friendships, and lessons learned along the way.
Arrival at Kozhikode around 3:00 am. The journey concludes after covering nearly 5,500+ km, connecting the Arabian Sea coast, central plains, desert fringes, Punjab plains, and the Himalayan mountains — a complete geographic cross-section of India.
